Morning wildfire destroys Rotospa Hot Tub showroom in Selwyn Township, Canada

HTR News is happy to report that no injuries have since been reported after an early morning blaze destroyed one of RotoSpa’s hot tub dealership showrooms based in Selwyn Township, Ontario, Canada.

Selwyn Township’s Fire Department fire prevention officer Andrew Bowyer dispatched crews at around 3 a.m. to a reported structure fire on 8th Line Smith at Rotospa Hot Tubs, a business showroom located just west of the village of Lakefield. The business specializes in building and servicing hot tubs.

Bowyer says the massive blaze required a full five-hall “all-call response” with 45 firefighters on scene. “Upon arrival the building was fully engulfed, because of the intensity of the fire and heavy smoke we were unable to get anywhere near the fire.”

Assistance was called in from neighbouring Douro-Dummer Township to help with the fire and replace volunteer firefighters who had to leave the scene for work. According to co-owner Bill Prentice, the business opened in 1997 and currently had 21 employees, some who have worked for more than 18 years, helping manufacture hot tubs on site that were then sold across North America and Europe.

Bowyner said in “briefly talking” with the RotoSpa dealership owner, the estimated damage could be “upwards to $5 million.” The true cause of the fire still remains under investigation, with Bowyner claiming “We haven’t been able to get close to it, our crews are still working on scene there as we start to do some overhaul and then we’ll take a look for possible causes.”

RotaSpa posted the following message on its Facebook business page on July the 19th.

“On behalf of everyone at RotoSpa, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all the firefighters that came from the surrounding areas to put out the fire, Friday morning.

We would also like to thank all the friends and customers that have reached out to us over the weekend offering support, assistance, and words of comfort over the devastating loss we are now facing.

Despite the challenges ahead, we are more determined than ever to continue to offer our loyal customers the level of customer service we’ve been known for over the last 20 years.

At the moment, we are in the midst of reconnecting our phone lines and internet so please be patient with us as we get back up and running, to rebuild, stronger than ever.”
