Star launch for ContraSpa

SpaFlo has launched ContraSpa as the UK’s first designed and built double-zone contrast water spa product with a special VIP promotion demonstration at SPATEX by hurdling star and TV celebrity Colin Jackson CBE.

ContraSpa has been declared as a ‘game changer in the world of wellbeing’ by Colin after being developed by SpaFlo founder and Managing Director Richard Gowland, pictured standing, as a dual-use spa within a single shell that provides convenient hot and cold water therapy capability. A key element of the design is the fact that it is based on the company’s logo and ethos, with a unique Ying / Yang configuration separating the different water temperatures whilst allowing easy access through cleverly integrated steps.

Another important factor is that ContraSpa utilises UK sourced sustainable commercial grade steel in the production process, and dedicated lighting has been incorporated to provide a visible distinction between the hot and cold water areas. In addition, the controls are Wi-fi and touchscreen enabled.

As part of ContraSpa’s launch promotion, SpaFlo is promoting the benefits of contrast water therapy that was first outlined by Professor Sebastian Kneipp, to boost wellness that has been highlighted as one of the oldest researched natural water therapies. While cold water therapy is gaining in popularity, contrast water therapy allows users to move between cold and hot temperatures, increasing the benefits and time spent doing the activity.

“I am delighted to launch the first ever single shell and dual use UK contrast therapy water spa to market to help people benefit from the wide-ranging advantages of cold & hot water therapy from their homes,” revealed SpaFlo Managing Director Richard Gowland, who has joined the BISHTA Committee.

“Health through water is at the heart of what we do. Spas, pools and water features all have their unique wellbeing properties. In contrast, water wellbeing has been around for many years.”

Wales and Great Britain sprint and hurdling athlete Colin Jackson gained stardom in the 110m hurdles with major event success including four European Championship Gold Medals, double World Champion and Commonwealth Champion status and Olympic Silver Medal. He was given VIP status at SPATEX 2024 to demonstrate the ContraSpa on the SpaFlo stand as part of his ambassador role for the promotion of the new design.

Colin has also previously been bestowed with OBE and MBE status and began a broadcasting career in 2004 as a co-host  of TV programme ‘Born to Win’ with fellow star athlete and hot tub wellness advocate Sally Gunnell. He was a member of the successful 2012 London Olympics bid team and in 2006 he won the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special’. Most recently he came third in  the 2021 TV edition of ‘Dancing on Ice’.

Along with being an established face of the BBC’s athletics coverage, Colin has now become the latest star promoter of hot and cold contrasting water treatment after gaining first-hand experience of the benefits for himself on the track and as a coach.

Colin explained the importance of contrast therapy for athletes in training. Firstly to reduce inflammation with immersion in cold water, followed by the effects of warm water to increase blood flow and circulation to aid recovery. As part of his launch collaboration with SpaFlo during the first day of SPATEX, Colin took the plunge to demonstrate the ContraSpa benefits of having instant access to both hot and cold water within the circular design concept.

‘I used cold water therapy throughout my years as a professional athlete and now working with the next generation of elite athletes,” divulged Colin.

“It is exciting to be working with the team pioneering the at home cold & hot water therapy spa. The benefits of cold water and hot water therapy have been documented for many years, and it is exciting that SpaFlo has launched this UK first to help people harness the power of contrast water therapy.

“ContraSpa is going to be a game changer in the world of wellbeing. Cold water therapy can play a huge role in efficient preparation and recovery, but it is the pioneering dual-purpose use of hot and cold water therapies together which can lead to even more positive benefits.

“After trying ContraSpa, I can truly say that it is one of the most comfortable, convenient and effective experiences I have had. Great work, SpaFlo.”
